Nano is dead. But why? Nanoparticles are considered potentially dangerous due to their small size, large surface area and unique chemical properties, which allow them to interact and accumulate with biological systems in ways that bulk materials do not. The long-term effects of many nanoparticles are still unknown, and regulatory frameworks are still catching up. On automotive coatings, “nano”, meaning nanoparticles, are commonly used on ceramic coatings marketing, but the real benefits of the performance gained is questionable. Yet it’s a great example of how marketing can outpace science in chemical products.

AMORPHIC LITE is a durable inorganic/organic hybrid coating with a slick, flexible surface that resists scratches, microcracks, and thermal/mechanical stress-related damage. This makes it more durable and resistant to chemicals and contamination than competitors.

AMORPHIC LITE is more than just hydrophobic. True performance comes from advanced non-stick technology— In functional coatings, hydrophobicity is just one small piece of the puzzle. While existing automotive coatings lack true non-stick feature, 42SHIELD integrates it seamlessly to all coating products. That’s why we define it as a true 2nd generation coating.

AMORPHIC LITE is by far the highest-performing coating in its class that can be sold to consumers according to EU regulations. It is tested in harsh Nordic Finnish winter conditions—resistant to detergents, solvents, tar, roadsalt, pollution and UV exposure.

With its non-stick, hydrophobic and slick smooth surface properties, it repels water, mud, ice, snow, bug stains, bird droppings and tree sap.

Amorphic LITE withstands all common detergents and solvents, but you won’t need them! PH-neutral, mild, and environmentally friendly cleaning agents are more than sufficient.

The durability of AMORPHIC LITE is approximately 1 to 2 years, depending on washing cycles and exposure to acidic or alkaline conditions. In general, determining durability is very difficult due to the very different maintenance and usage conditions of each car. In Finland, road salt (NaCl, CaCl₂) destroys all ceramic coatings within a few months, and the same coating in warmer countries lasts for a few years. Our testing conditions are quite harsh compared to products manufactured in other regions, and estimated durabilities for our products means the durability in Finnish and nordic conditions.

The best durability of the 42SHIELD coating is NOT achieved by using “boosters” or other maintenance products. By selling and using maintenance products “to achieve the best durability and performance,” consumers are given the illusion of coating longevity. When the hydrophobicity of the coating has diminished, the coating has already become ineffective or has disappeared entirely. Maintenance products reapply hydrophobic properties either to the remaining coating residues or directly to the bare paint or clear coat, rather than actually “maintaining” or “enhancing” the existing coating.

The 42SHIELD product portfolio, usage, or marketing does not include maintenance products, as their sole purpose is to obscure the true performance of the coating. By encouraging the use of such products, it is possible to promise consumers a 10-year lifespan for a ceramic coating that, in reality, has worn off within a year.
